Programs
At Oak House, we have groups centered around shared hobbies or interests, such as arts and crafts, gardening, cooking, and reading. We actively encourage our members to suggest new ideas for these groups, promoting engagement and a sense of belonging.
We offer emotional and psychological support to members through various support groups, such as NAMI Connections, and Schizophrenics Anonymous. We offer open-recovery meetings like Alcoholics Anonymous and Taking Back Ohio. These groups aim to empower members in managing their recovery journey.
In collaboration with Hope Recovery Network, we facilitate peer support by matching individuals with someone who has a shared life experience. This type of support is invaluable for those on their mental health and substance use recovery journeys.
We host a variety of social activities, including birthdays and bingo, card and craft making, day trips to local nature parks and beaches, and holiday-themed parties. These activities aim to improve social skills and facilitate peer interaction.
In an effort to instill a sense of community pride, we participate in service activities such as Adopt-a-Road, ringing the bell for Salvation Army, and collecting mittens, hats, and socks for kids at Joyful Connections.
We offer our members the chance to learn basic gardening skills. We maintain a garden where members can plant and grow vegetables, providing them with the knowledge that can be applied to creating a home garden.
Amanda Conn from New Directions Health & Wellness visits Oak House to educate members on the benefits and uses of essential oils for personal wellness, covering topics like stress relief and medicinal uses.
MeLinda Thomas from Serenity Christian Hypnosis provides various guided meditation sessions designed to clear the mind and promote positive thinking, addressing a range of life issues, including weight control and quitting smoking.
Nikki Haghiri leads a group that allows us to connect with our bodies and our mind. The yoga classes are not made to be difficult. They are met to help you find peace and tranquility.
At Oak House, we provide a mindfulness program. We teach members to be present in the moment and practice techniques like Mindful Eating, fostering an awareness of thoughts and feelings without judgment.
We organize excursions to various places including sporting events, thrift stores, shopping centers, area attractions, and community events. These trips are an opportunity for fun and community-building for our members.
